Keira Knightley has such a talent for making me like her characters less every time. I didn’t like this book when I first read it my sophomore year, I didn’t like it the time I read it my junior year, and I suppose I still don’t find its meaning, but the movie was aesthetically pleasing. I always feel so horridly pretentious when I feel like I would very much love to live in a pretty world as the characters do, completely disregarding the actuality of their situations (um, you know, the fact that they’re all meant to die before they’re thirty, and all). Whoever was in charge of costume design is a genius and I’d like to hang out with them one afternoon or two.
Congratulations to Andrew Garfield for his face, and his ability to dress himself in real life as he does in this film.
loved the clothes but yea i agree that the styling here is the only great thing about the film. looks gorgeous but lacks substance :/
ReplyDeleteI was really underwhelmed by this movie when I first watched it as well. In fact, I watched a pirated cam copy so I didn't even get to see the visually pleasing side of it! I've got to rewatch it again for the clothes.

ReplyDeleteI have the same opinion of the book & movie as well. Both were so underwhelming, I don't understand what all the hype is about. But alas, yes, Andrew Garfield deserves a pat on the back for his boyish and lovable visage :P

ReplyDeleteI like the idea for the story (although I haven't read the book) and the film was alright and everything, I just didn't feel any connection with the characters at all and instead of being bittersweet it was just bitter. I don't even dislike Keira and I'm going to go against the vibe in the room and say that I even kinda like her, but lately she's been in some shit movies and/or she's choosing or just getting very unlikeable roles....
ReplyDeleteThere was one part of the story that I at first hated and then starting appreciating as something to make it more complexing (and frustrating) *****POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT***** and that's how they never considered running away from their fate, it just wasn't an option. They just did what they were made to do. Again, I did not read the book and it may have gone differently there but I hope it didn't.
I haven't read the book or seen the film, so I'm just going by the photos; I love the look of the film, the costumes especially, and I quite like the actors. I suppose if you were forced to read it that always seems to ruin the book, and I hope it's not true that it's hard to connect with the characters!
