A bit ago I posted my sad story on how I truly cannot dance, and was encouraged by the abundance of “you’ll get the hang of it” comments.  I believe you, so I’ve been practicing.

I found that there are many ways to truly master the art that is dancing, but not enough ways to get through specific types.  For example, I don’t know how to even approach the Salsa or Mambo or any sort of Latin dances.  I’d like to learn how to dance to doo-wop and Motown (and master the Mashed Potato).

Anyway, this is the type of music that them whipper-snappers listen to today.  I don’t know how to categorize this music, other than the fact that every time I listen to this music, I daydream of dancing to intricately choreographed pieces to them.  And it makes me sad, because to be able to dance to intricate choreography, you need to be able to dance at all.  Which is what my GOAL is for this year.

Seriously, though—show of hands, who listens to their music and doesn’t sometimes daydream that they’re up on some stage, singing it?  I’ve found that by playing this music really loud (really loud) gets me motivated—plus, I can’t hear my wheezy breath or my feet stomping awkwardly on the floor or anybody else, which makes me feel like nobody can hear me.

    1. Ooomph, don't even get me started on my singing voice. It's like a dying cat mixed with a dying seal. Or just obnoxious-sounding animals. All of them. Combined. Fo'real.

  2. Aww, so glad to hear you've been practising! I believe in you, Jessica. You can do it and you'll show the dancefloor who's the boss.

Love this playlist! Amazing as always.

You're not alone. I also imagine myself on stage singing and dancing when I hear this type of music.

  3. Whooooo, you have a way with words I envy! "I’ve found that by playing this music really loud (really loud) gets me motivated—plus, I can’t hear my wheezy breath or my feet stomping awkwardly on the floor or anybody else, which makes me feel like nobody can hear me." DAMN RIGHT!

I'm going to listen to this tonight when I study marketing. It should get me pumped right? ;) I like the artists listed there! :D

  4. Haha, whenever I listen to my music I long to just spontaneously burst into an amazing dance routine and sing my little heart out! Good luck with your dancing... I was going to say there's a danger of trying too hard... but don't listen, just keep dancing and having a good time! :)
